Leisurely
Departure @ 9 a.m. with a drive over scenic Hill Country roads
with plenty of breathtaking wildflowers. There will be plenty
of wine tasting, video presentations, and scenery while en
route to Sister
Creek Vineyards. The winery is housed in a cotton gin
built in 1885. Lunch is down the road in Sisterdale’s
oldest bar/country store. French winemaking techniques are
used in making of their award winning Chardonnay, Pinot Noir,
Merlot, and Cabernet. The reds are definitely worth collecting
over the years for a personal tasting of a varietal over a
three to four year period to see exactly how a wine changes
as the vine and the winemaker’s technique mature.
Then it’s off to Luckenbach;
listen to musicians (it could be anyone) enjoying each other’s
talents in a “in prompt to” jam session. Visit the
bar, dancehall, store, or do some washer tossing while drinking
a “cold one” under the trees.
Grape
Creek Vineyards will be our next winery stop in Stonewall.
In operation for 16 years, Grape Creek offers a wealth of
experience in winemaking techniques. Hit with Pierce’s
disease ‘95, the Simes completely replanted the vineyard
in ‘98.
Becker
Vineyards (just down the road) is one of Texas’ leading
wineries, with many state and national awards.
Arrival in Austin around 8 pm. |
